While cute, It's vague references ring loudly all of the politically correctness the media peddles in a single day. Therefore, I felt it was my duty to compile my own list of the things we learned from this great film.
The Real Life Lessons from Forrest Gump:
1. Shit happens. It's true that the sky doesn't rain forever, but it DOES rain. Just like peas and carrots shouldn't go together, It happens... sometimes.
2.There will come an opportunity to show your butt in front of everyone. We all have those moments in life when showing your rear is an option. It is up to you what you do in those instances. Think it through.
3. If you are required to take your clothes off to perform on stage, it's time to consider a new career path. yeah... That's self explanatory.
4. Even if your budget is limited, meals are as infinite as your ability. Bubba gave us the ever growing list of ways to prepare shrimp, but if you are like me...and don't eat shrimp...I'm certain it can be applied to your 'what's for chicken' dinners...
5. Stupid is as Stupid does...This goes right along with, "It is better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Stupid is as stupid does is painfully obvious to the rest of the world at the moment when stupid ...does....
6. Forrest Gump had more stamina than all of us...combined. He actually felt like running across the country...more than once! I don't feel like running to the mailbox...
7. Dance...even if you can't move your legs. If you shake what you've got, you might just start a trend...whether it be Elvis the Pelvis or twerk it til you work it....just be careful who you show it to.
8. Be proud to be an American. If you don't like the way this country is going, you need to accept some responsibility for it. It is YOUR country. Vote. Stand up for what you believe.
9. We should help soldiers coming back from war. In WWI, it was called shell shock. In Vietnam, they called it Post Traumatic Stress Disorder...now they call it something else, but it is all the same thing. Soldiers that need a support group of friends and family to help them to accept and move on from the horrors that they've seen. Forrest taught us to be that friend.
10. Kids are a miracle and a blessing. I never liked Jenny. She used Forrest repeatedly. However, she had his child, and that child was exactly what Forrest needed: validation and purpose and family and love. No child is a mistake. I never planned a child. It changed my life's paths. It was worth it. THEY were worth it. All children are.
Forrest Gump showed us that ordinary people can do extraordinary things. It showed us that people take notice of what we say and do, even when we don't. I hope you like my list. Have a nice day!
